The secret life of plants
5 Oct–3 Nov 2024
Gallery Common is pleased to present “The secret life of plants,” a solo exhibition by Jun Tsunoda, from October 5 to November 3, 2024. The exhibition will feature new works from the artist’s “Black Plants” series, in which he uses plaster, lacquer, and acrylic to depict plants in abstracted, “primitive” forms. Tsunoda’s intuitive, symbolic paintings this time incorporate the new addition of transparent finishes suggestive of water, expanding upon the artist’s exploration into the fluidity and spirituality of nature.
Tsunoda began his career as an art director in the 1980s, and gained recognition in the creative industries as a visionary who worked with a wide variety of artists in music and fashion both in Japan and abroad, popularizing the countercultures of various genres and generations. During this time, creating artworks remained a routine that existed in symbiosis with his career, and in 2004, he finally stepped back from design work to shift his focus to his artistic practice full time.
