Artist Ichi Tashiro and musician Setsuya Kurotaki (iiP) have teamed up to release a limited edition vinyl record and artwork box set of iiP’s EP, “Serendipity.” The EP was originally released on streaming platforms this spring, and was inspired by Tashiro’s solo exhibition of the same name, which was held at Gallery COMMON in Harajuku, Tokyo in March 2022.
Thanks to the love it received from fans, the track will now be released as a vinyl record in commemoration of the fateful collaboration between the 2 artists. Limited to an edition of 60, the polygonal transparent vinyl is a mini replica of one of the artworks from Tashiro’s exhibition, and can be played on a record player or displayed as an artwork.
Each edition also comes with a unique artwork specially created by Tashiro for this release. Every one-of-a-kind newspaper collage is mounted in an elegant black wooden frame, and is included within the box set.
The framed artwork and vinyl record come within the same packaging, a foam-padded fold-out case which is encased within a sleek black fabric box sleeve with embossed lettering. Both come with their own certificate of authenticity, each signed by the respective artists.
This box set commemorates a true crossover between music and art, a collaboration that extends from the theme and title, to the shape and design of the vinyl record, down to the innovative idea to include both a music piece and an art piece within a single set. This set will surely make for a sophisticated addition to any music or art lovers’collection.
The box set will be released on December 23 at The Plug in Harajuku, and will be on sale at the venue until December 25. Online purchase will become available from January 13, 2023 at favournoir.com. The release will also be marked with a popup exhibition at the same venue, which will be on view from December 23 to 25. In addition to the physical release, visitors will get the chance to see an exhibition of new artworks by Tashiro.

Ichi Tashiro
Ichi Tashiro (b. 1984, Ehime, Japan) is a self-taught collage artist. Tashiro previously lived in New York and Hong Kong before returning to Tokyo where he is currently based. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across New York, Hong Kong, Paris, Los Angeles, Amster- dam, Belgium, Denmark, Singapore, and Tokyo, as well as art fairs such as Art Basel Hong Kong, ASIA Now Paris, Art Taipei, and Art Stage Singapore.

Kurotaki’s sphere of activity is broad and varied, ranging from music direction for domestic and international fashion shows, sound branding for commercial facilities, and sound design for websites, to film compositions and sound installations. As a musician, he has participated in many live performances and recordings, and has performed in various tours nationwide as a DJ / Music Selector, and in 2020 he was the winner of the Kukan Design Award Gold Prize.

2022年3月に原宿のGallery COMMONで開催されたIchi Tashiroの個展「Serendipity」では、 ミュージシャン 黒 瀧節也 (iiP) がTashiroの作品を音楽的に解釈をし作曲を行い、同年春にストリーミング配信でEPをリリース。好評 を得た本EPのジャケットにはTashiroの作品が起用され、二人の運命的なコラボレーションを経て、今回、当時の展 示と同名のタイトルとなるレコード盤とアート作品のボックスセット「Serendipity」をリリース、限定販売することとなりました。
限定60セットで販売される今回の「Serendipity」は、透明仕様のレコード盤がTashiroの個展で展示されていた作 品のミニレプリカとなる多角形のカスタムシェイプになっており、レコードプレーヤーでの再生はもちろん、アート ワークとして楽しむこともできます。
また、各エディションに付属されているTashiroの作品は、本リリースのために特別に制作をしたもので、全てユニー クとなっています。新聞紙や書籍からモチーフを見つけ切り貼りしたコラージュ作品はTashiroの代表的なシリーズ で、ソリッドな黒い木製フレーム(30.2×26.2cm)にマウントされています。作品は黒瀧節也 (iiP)のレコード盤と共 に、フォームパッド入りの折りたたみ式ケースに収められ、エンボス加工の文字が入った黒い光沢布をボックススリ ーブとして使用しています。レコード盤、アート作品共にアーティストのサイン入り証明書も付属されています。
黒瀧節也 (iiP) とTashiroの二人だからこそ形となった本コラボレーションは、テーマやタイトルを始め、レコード盤 の形状やデザイン、そして音楽作品とアート作品をセットにするという斬新なアイディアまでも特別なものとなって おり、クロスオーバーを記念した今回のリリースは、音楽とアートファンへ響き、支持される貴重なアイテムになる でしょう。
